Kosova; Suspected Mass Grave in Kozhle, Novi Pazar, Inspections Underway

Members of the Government Commission for Missing Persons from Kosova inspected the village of Kozhle near Novi Pazar. Forensic experts from the Institute of Forensic Medicine joined them. They are investigating a suspected mass grave. The inspections aim to determine whether the site contains human remains.
Kushtrim Gara from the Central Commission for Missing Persons said the site in Kozhle must receive priority. He noted that other locations, including Batajnica, also require urgent attention. He stressed that excavations must rely on information from Serbian institutional archives. This will help identify the exact location and prevent past mistakes.
The suspected site lies near a waste disposal area. This complicates the situation for the victims’ families. It also raises concerns about preserving the integrity of the remains.
Valon Hyseni, a forensic expert from the Institute of Forensic Medicine, confirmed the institute’s full commitment. Forensic teams will remain at the site throughout the work. They will monitor progress closely. Authorities hope to locate and identify the remains of people who disappeared during the Kosovo War.
The remains of approximately 1,600 Albanian civilians who went missing during the war have not yet been recovered. Kosovan authorities have urged Serbia to open its state archives. Access to these records would help clarify the fate of the missing.
