Rama Shares Aerial Views of Ali Pasha’s Castle in Butrint

Prime Minister Edi Rama posted stunning aerial footage of Vivari Castle, also known as Ali Pasha’s Castle, in Butrint National Park, Saranda.
Tourists from Albania and abroad visit the fortress throughout the year. Ali Pasha built it around 1800 at the mouth of the Vivari Channel to block French troops from landing from Corfu.
The rectangular fortress measures 20 by 30 meters. Four towers guard its corners: two circular ones face the sea, while two square ones rise on the opposite side. The main gate stands between the square towers. A smaller gate opens toward the canal and features a rare defensive design. Besides the two outer towers, an inner fortification system protects the entrance.
Visitors can reach the castle only by boat, as water surrounds it completely.
