At Milan Fashion Week today, designer Moralda Durra presents a collection dedicated to the Albanian xhubleta. The collection is titled A Thousand and One Threads.

This work is a contemporary homage to the xhubleta, the oldest Albanian garment, which recalls the roots of our cultural heritage.

The Albanian xhubleta takes the spotlight today at a fashion show held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan.

The collection A Thousand and One Threads won first prize at the Muza Competition 2025, held in July. The project was supported by the Ministry of Economy, Culture, and Innovation.

Durra’s designs use mainly black shajak, a traditional wool fabric, adorned with fine black wool cords (gajtanë). The collection reinterprets the essence of the xhubleta through a raw, modern, and conceptual lens. In the designer’s vision, each thread connects women of early Albanian society with those of today.

In 2022, UNESCO declared the Albanian xhubleta a world cultural heritage.
