Poverty Rate in Albania Falls as Household Incomes Improve

Improved financial conditions have helped reduce poverty in Albania. According to INSTAT, the risk of poverty last year stood at 19.2%, down 0.6 percentage points compared with revised 2023 data.

INSTAT data show that the poverty threshold for a single person in 2024 is 324,336 lek, up from 262,325 lek in 2023. The report highlights that social benefits, such as old-age and family pensions, contributed to lowering the risk of poverty.

Meanwhile, average monthly disposable income per capita increased by 23.2% compared to 2023, reaching 51,000 lek. Poverty by age group and family structure reveals the largest decline among children and youth under 17.

For the active age group (18–64), poverty fell to 18.6%. For those over 65, it slightly increased to 13.8%.

Data also show that families with children remain more exposed to poverty than childless households, although both groups recorded improvements compared with last year.
