Rama: “Fiscal Peace” to Begin Implementation in 2026

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that the government plans to finalize the conceptual framework of the “Fiscal Peace” draft law by the end of this year, aiming to start its implementation in early 2026.
Rama met with finance experts to discuss Albania’s main priorities on its path toward EU membership by 2030.
“It is essential to complete the ‘Fiscal Peace’ project conceptually by year-end so that we can begin implementation next year. If designed and planned properly, it will send a positive message to businesses and help increase state revenues,” Rama stated.
He underlined that the initiative aims to improve the performance of public administration and reduce informality in the economy.
Finance Minister Petrit Malaj added that the government seeks sustainable economic growth through sound fiscal and monetary policies, deep structural reforms, and strategic investments.
The “Fiscal Peace” initiative aims to build a new partnership between the government and the business community through tax relief and greater transparency in relations with the tax administration.
Authorities said the plan will forgive tax obligations older than ten years and introduce a new repayment scheme with reduced rates for debts accumulated over the past decade.
The initiative gives businesses and individuals a chance to settle past tax issues and start a transparent, trust-based relationship with fiscal institutions.
Through “Fiscal Peace,” the government seeks not only to ease the tax burden on businesses but also to promote economic formalization and boost state revenues, fostering a fair and predictable tax environment.
