The University of Tirana honored academician Prof. Dr. Sabri Hamiti today with the title of Doctor Honoris Causa.

The award recognized him as a scholar, critic, poet, playwright, novelist, publisher, educator, and politician whose work has shaped Albanian culture. The citation highlighted his wide-ranging themes, depth of thought, critical insight, unique writing style, and lifelong dedication to literature and creative expression.

In his acceptance speech, Hamiti expressed deep gratitude for the honor from Albania’s leading academic institution. He described his speech as a personal reflection shared with an open mind and heart, celebrating the recognition and joy of the moment.

During his address, Hamiti mentioned prominent Albanian figures such as Sami Frashëri, Mit’hat Frashëri, Eqrem Çabej, Aleks Buda, Lasgush Poradeci, At Zef Pllumi, and Ibrahim Rugova.

A poet, writer, and scholar, Sabri Hamiti has authored dozens of literary and academic works. He also served seven terms in the Kosovo Assembly (1992–2017), held the position of Deputy Speaker, and was a signatory of Kosovo’s 2008 Declaration of Independence.
