Begaj: Digitalizing National Films Preserves Heritage for the Next Generations

President Bajram Begaj visited the Central State Film Archive today.

During the visit, Begaj praised Albania’s audiovisual cultural heritage. He called it a part of the country’s collective memory. According to him, this memory helps educate and shape younger generations through the nation’s history.

“It is the memory of the nation. It reflects our identity, mentality, events, and emotions,” Begaj told reporters. “Many dedicated people created this heritage. I am here to express my gratitude to them. They are passionate and deeply committed to preserving it.” This was the first visit of a Head of State to the Film Archive.

Furthermore, the President stressed that Albanian national films serve as “silent teachers” for young people. Through these works, they understand the past and can reflect on it while building their future.

He also underlined the importance of preserving and restoring historical audiovisual materials.

Meanwhile, Begaj acknowledged the work done by the Film Archive. He expressed full support for saving and protecting these materials.

“We must invest more in the digitalization of our film heritage,” Begaj said during his conversation with the institution’s leadership, specialists, and filmmakers from Kosovo. “This will make it accessible to young people and researchers.”

In addition, the meeting included a screening of the short film “117” by director Besim Sahatçiu. The film highlights the values of the Albanian family.

On this occasion, Rita Ora, the famous Albanian singer and granddaughter of director Sahatçiu, sent a special greeting.
