TIRANA, November 18 – The importance of the Albanian language for national identity was highlighted by students at the School of Ballet in Tirana. They called for the protection of the Albanian language.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared the students’ message today. He said, “Writing Albanian correctly and beautifully is the highest honor we can give our language”.

After the 1990s, the Albanian language faced many changes, political and social, which affected its use directly.

November recalls an important event, the Congress of Manastir, held from 14 to 22 November 1908.

22 November, Alphabet Day, marks a key unifying moment for Albanians.

The Congress of Manastir is considered the most important event for the Albanian people in the early 20th century. Its work led to the declaration of independence on 28 November 1912.

For Albanians in North Macedonia, this day is also a national celebration. In Manastir, the Museum of the Albanian Language Alphabet preserves around 56 photographs of participants and 230 documents in paper and digital form.
