Parliamentary committee approves budget changes, increases support for RTSH

TIRANA, November 27 – The Committee on Human Rights and Public Information approved changes to the 2026 draft budget, following a proposal from the majority. The revisions increase support for several institutions, including the Albanian Public Radio and Television (RTSH).
Socialist member Etleva Budini said the changes aim to improve institutional efficiency and include necessary projects. She explained that RTSH requested specific increases: 192 million Lekë for current expenses under the programs “Albanians Abroad” and 90 million Lekë for foreign language programs; 20 million lek for film and artistic productions; 82 million Lekë for technical projects; and 1.2 billion Lekë for investment expenses over three years. Budini noted that the 2026 allocation for archive digitization alone will reach 200 million Lekë.
Another committee member, Ardit Bido, supported Budini’s proposal. He stressed that institutions such as the Ombudsman and RTSH should receive increased support. Bido added that investment in RTSH’s archive digitization and nationwide signal coverage is essential. He noted that RTSH’s primary role is to cover the entire country, and many areas remain without signal.
Following approval by this committee, the proposed budget changes are expected to go to the Committee on Economy for further consideration.
