Kosovo’s historic President’s birthday/ Spiropali calls Ibrahim Rugova a political and spiritual missionary leader

Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali commemorated today the 81st birthday of Kosovo’s historic president, Ibrahim Rugova. She called him one of the most important figures in Albanian history and a leader of peaceful leadership.
Spiropali emphasized that Rugova stood out from other politicians. “He never shouted, bragged, or belittled his opponents,” she said.
She added, “Perhaps because of his name—Ibrahim or Abraham—I saw him as a prophet in childhood. Later, I realized he resembled no one else. He did not shout, brag, or humiliate rivals. He never beat his chest or sought attention without reason. His presence and absence were equally important. Rugova evoked Dardania, the roots of our identity, what we were and what we should be. He was both a political and spiritual leader. His gentleness embodied an irresistible force of determination and consistency.”
Spiropali described Rugova as a political and spiritual leader whose gentleness reflected “an unstoppable force of determination and steadiness.”
She stressed that Kosovo will always remember his role in the country’s journey toward freedom and independence.
“Rugova did not follow crowds. He led them through unknown paths, from darkness into light. Kosovo and Rugova are inseparable in the eyes of the civilized world. In the noblest tradition of the Albanian Renaissance, for Rugova, the sun rises in the west. On Kosovo’s arduous path to freedom and independence, Ibrahim Rugova guided with wisdom and unwavering patriotism. He was born on December 2, 81 years ago. And he will be remembered forever,” the minister writes.
