2nd edition of European literature festival kicks off; Authors from 13 countries explore contemporary literary themes

The second edition of the European Literature Festival has opened in Tirana. The event runs until December 6. Thirteen authors from 13 European countries present diverse themes that reflect the continent’s contemporary literary scene.

EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato underlined the collaboration between international writers and the local literary community. He said the festival builds bridges that connect people through stories. Organized with EU member state embassies and the Italian Cultural Institute, it showcases several contemporary authors, some translated into Albanian. The ambassador added that the event encourages dialogue, exploration, and connection through the power of literature.

Austrian-Slovenian writer Maja Haderlap attended the opening. She discussed her novel The Angel of Oblivion, which depicts the struggles of a Slovenian community in southern Austria during and after World War II.

The festival also includes school visits, public discussions, artistic performances, creative writing workshops, and collaborations that blend spoken word with music on the theme of literary memory.
