BDI Leader Ahmeti Announces Protest in Support of Former KLA Leaders in Skopje

Ali Ahmeti, leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI), announced that he will hold a protest on December 13 in Skopje. The demonstration aims to support former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders currently on trial in The Hague. It will start at 1:00 PM at Skanderbeg Square.
Ahmeti urged Albanians to join the march. He explained that the protest seeks justice and shows solidarity with former KLA leaders. He noted that authorities have unjustly detained them since November 2020, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Ahmeti previously participated in similar protests in Pristina and Tirana. Moreover, he stressed, “On December 13, starting at 1:00 PM, we will protest in Skopje to demand justice and support the freedom fighters who remain unjustly imprisoned. The protest will take place at Skanderbeg Square.”
The government of North Macedonia reacted quickly. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski condemned the protest as a “wrong move” and warned that it could harm political and coalition relations. He added that he does not support the march and that his party, VLEN, will likely not back it.
“This protest is a wrong move by Ahmeti, and he should reconsider it. They are trying to mobilize before the party congress. Consequently, they show that finding a coalition partner in the future will be very difficult. I do not support this idea, nor do I agree with the march. Furthermore, I am confident that VLEN will not back it,” Mickoski said.
