“Drawing Rooms” Exhibition Unveils Two Centuries of Albanian Art in Tirana

The joint exhibition “Drawing Rooms”, a special collection of 87 graphics and drawings by 24 historical and contemporary Albanian artists, opened last night in Tirana.

The exhibition, curated by Alba Sgarbi and Artan Shabani, with Matias Shabani as coordinator, will remain open from 4 December 2025 to 28 January 2026 at the new MAG Gallery space in Tirana.

Last night, visitors experienced an artistic journey spanning almost two centuries of creativity on paper—graphics, drawings, and pastels—where technique, emotion, and tradition intertwine. Moreover, the exhibition highlights the creative process, historical influences, and the dialogue that emerges between the artist and the viewer through the graphic mark.

In the gallery halls, stylistic and thematic links appear between the works. These connections create a contemplative and intimate atmosphere, where form, color, and figure gain new symbolic meaning.

Works by renowned artists such as Zef Shoshi, Sofia Zengo Papadhimitri, Ksenofon Dilo, Guri Madhi, and Bujar Zajmi appear alongside contemporary creations. As a result, the exhibition offers a rich panorama of the evolution of drawing in Albania.

The exhibition also reflects on the history of this genre in the country. It recalls the beginnings of the 1931 Drawing School, led by teachers such as Mario Ridola, Andrea Kushi, Abdurrahim Buza, and Lasgush Poradeci, who shaped the first generations of Albanian artists.

“Drawing Rooms” stands as one of MAG Gallery’s most important projects, bringing together—for the first time—rare works of this format in a single exhibition.

The opening night attracted strong interest from art lovers and the cultural community of the capital.
