Kosova Opens the Museum of War Children

The Museum of War Children in Kosova opened today with the exhibition “The Interrupted Game,” featuring dozens of abandoned toys. The museum aims to preserve the memories of children during the war in Kosova and ensure that their personal wartime experiences are never forgotten.
Bjeshkë Guri, the museum’s director, explained that the exhibition conveys complex emotional messages that only war can bring.
Despite the significance of the stories held by this museum, it has not been a priority for state institutions. Marigona Shabihu, the director of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHRS) in Kosova, shared that for the past five years, efforts to secure a public space for the museum have been unsuccessful due to the reluctance of institutions to support the project.
Shabihu added that, for now, the museum will temporarily operate in a private space.
Petrit Halilaj, whose works are part of the exhibition, said he used his drawings to share the bitter experiences of war.
The museum will feature personal items, video testimonies, and curated exhibits that reflect the experiences of children during the war in Kosova.
