Albania is getting ready for the 61st Venice Biennale. Artist Genti Korini will represent the country with his project “A Place in the Sun.”

A public talk in Tirana presented the project and explained how it was selected. Korini and the curators described the artistic concept and the curatorial approach behind it. They highlighted the importance of this moment for Albanian contemporary art. They also stressed how public institutions and independent actors strengthen Albania’s international cultural presence when they work together.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Lira Pipa, National Gallery director Adela Demetja, and AVAN director Elian Stefa attended the event.

A jury selected Korini’s project from 17 proposals submitted through an open call. The jury praised the work for its strong concept and precise visual execution. They noted how Korini blends archival research, folklore, and imagination to explore collective memory, ideology, identity, and space—connecting Albania’s past with its historical ties to the Soviet Union.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports and the National Gallery organized the public discussion in cooperation with the Center for Openness and Dialogue (COD).
