PM Rama’s visit to The Hague, Grenell: Jack Smith legal case against former President Thaçi shames Europeans

TIRANA, December 19 – Prime Minister Edi Rama’s visit to The Hague to meet former President of Kosova, Hashim Thaçi, drew a response from the United States. Special Presidential Envoy Richard Grenell openly supported Rama’s stance and criticized the former prosecutor of the Special Court, Jack Smith.

Through a post on the platform X, Grenell praised the Albanian prime minister for criticizing the legal process at the heart of Europe. He said Rama had “shamed” Europeans for allowing what Grenell described as a “great injustice” to continue.

Grenell added that the NATO ally and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama rejected the legal case of Jack Smith against former President Thaçi and shamed Europeans by allowing this injustice to continue. He described Jack Smith as a disgrace and affirmed that Rama was right.

Prime Minister Rama, who has been one of the most vocal defenders of the integrity of the Kosovo Liberation Army in the international arena, visited Thaçi at the detention center in The Hague to express support for him and the Albanian state. His criticisms of the process and the prolonged detention without a final verdict have now received attention from American diplomacy.
