Kosovan President Meets U.S. Deputy Secretary of State

TIRANA, December 23 – Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani met on Monday in Washington with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. Discussions focused on recent U.S. legislation, regional security, and advancing the paused strategic dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, the Kosovan Presidency said.
The recently signed National Defense Authorization Act calls on Kosova and Serbia to implement the 2023 normalization agreement. Osmani expressed “the gratitude of the people of Kosova” for U.S. support for Kosovo’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, NATO membership, and strategic economic investment.
She also welcomed Washington’s approach to the Kosova-Serbia dialogue, emphasizing that it should be based on mutual recognition and rejecting any proposals to alter borders or partition territories.
The strategic dialogue had been suspended earlier this year after Washington raised concerns over Kosova’s temporary government extending authority in Serb-majority northern areas without international coordination. Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti described these measures as steps to enforce the rule of law, in line with the Constitution.
Osmani called the strategic dialogue “a key platform” for strengthening bilateral partnership and advancing cooperation in shared areas of interest. This was her second meeting with Landau this year, following summer talks on potential economic collaboration.
She noted opportunities for joint projects in energy, information technology, and defense sectors. Throughout 2025, Osmani also met with other senior U.S. officials, including President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Since 1998, the United States has provided over $2 billion in support to Kosova. Kosovan leaders repeatedly describe the U.S. as their most important partner, with its support deemed vital.
