Rozafa Castle Revitalization Project improves infrastructure and museum

TIRANA, January 5 – Shkodër’s Castle, known as ‘Rozafa’ was set to be included in a revitalization project during 2026. The Albanian Development Fund planned the project to improve key infrastructure at the historic and tourist site. The plan included new parking areas, orientation signage, and restoration works at the Castle Museum to enhance visitor services.
The Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Shkodër confirmed the project. Director Helidon Sokoli presented the details during the “RTSH Shkodra” program “Simfoni Festash” [Celebrations’ Symphony]. He said investments supported the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.
Sokoli explained that the project focused mainly on tourism-supporting infrastructure. He said authorities planned new parking spaces for buses and private vehicles. He added that information points would operate near the parking area and inside the castle. According to him, the plan also included a new signage system, informative panels, a permanent stage, and restoration works at the medieval Castle Museum, which faced humidity issues.
Meanwhile, 2025 closed as a strong year for Rozafa Castle. The site recorded about 178,000 visitors, marking a record figure. Earlier, a newly installed lighting system gave the castle a renewed appearance and highlighted the values of one of Shkodër’s most important archaeological symbols.
