School start in Kosova postponed due to floods

TIRANA, January 7 – The Kosovan Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation announced that the second semester of the 2025-2026 school year will begin on 12 January instead of today. Officials said heavy rains and worsened conditions in several municipalities caused floods and difficult traffic, prompting the delay.
The Kosovan Hydrometeorological Institute warned that rain will continue in the coming days, increasing the risk of local floods and traffic problems. As a result, authorities extended the winter break to 8 and 9 January.
The ministry stated that it maintains close contact with municipal education directorates. Field reports showed that holding classes today was impossible. Officials added that teachers will recover missed lessons during the second half of the school year.
The ministry emphasized that it prioritizes student and staff safety. Officials asked parents, students, and teachers to follow official guidance.
