27th anniversary of Reçak massacre, Kosovan Acting PM Kurti: This remains an open wound awaiting justice

TIRANA, January 15 – Kosovan Acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, paid tribute at the Reçak Memorial Complex on the 27th anniversary of the Reçak massacre. He honored the victims of one of the gravest crimes committed by Serbia during the war in Kosova.

During the ceremony, Kurti noted that the Reçak massacre marked a turning point in raising international awareness of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide carried out by the Serbian state against the Albanian population in Kosova.

He recalled that 27 years ago, through Ambassador William Walker, the truth about these crimes reached the international community. He added that the massacre mobilized public opinion and Western diplomatic channels.

Kurti emphasized that the Reçak massacre remains an open wound awaiting justice. He reiterated Kosovan institutions’ commitment to prosecute those responsible for the crimes.

He said that the ceremony expressed both grief and determination. Kurti stressed that the authorities will continue efforts to bring perpetrators to trial and punish those who committed atrocities 27 years ago.

At the conclusion, the Kosovan Acting Prime Minister honored the victims and martyrs. He paid tribute to the 45 Reçak martyrs and 11 national heroes, led by Commander Ahmet Kaçiku.

The Reçak massacre remains one of the most serious crimes of the war in Kosova. It symbolizes suffering, resistance, and the ongoing demand for justice.
