Osmani Awards Hasan Arat the Presidential Medal of Merit

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani today awarded Hasan Arat the Presidential Medal of Merit.

The President’s Office said the award recognises Arat’s outstanding contribution to the development and promotion of sport. It also honours his continuous support for the Republic of Kosovo.

During the ceremony, President Osmani described Arat as a leading figure in international sport and public life. She stressed that his vision, dedication, and integrity have made a valuable contribution to Kosovo. In particular, she highlighted his role in promoting Kosovo sport on the international stage.

Moreover, the President praised Arat’s decisive role in Kosovo’s successful bid to host the Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030. The event marks a historic milestone for Kosovo sport and its international recognition.

After receiving the medal, Arat said the Games represent more than a major sporting event. He described them as an important moment for sports diplomacy and Kosovo’s global affirmation.

He added that Kosovo has already proven its strong sporting potential. According to Arat, the Mediterranean Games will leave a lasting legacy and inspire future generations.

Arat also spoke about the deep love of the people of Kosovo for sport. He described sport as a universal language that connects societies and states. He noted that sport has played a key role in Kosovo’s international recognition.

Furthermore, Arat stressed that the Mediterranean Games are among the largest sporting events. He said they require careful planning and high professional standards. He underlined that proper organisation will define the legacy for decades to come.

Hasan Arat is a Turkish businessman and sports administrator of Albanian origin. He is a former basketball player and a member of the European Olympic Committees. He previously served as Vice President of the Turkish Olympic Committee. He also led the coordination commission for the Krakow 2023 European Games and headed Istanbul’s bid for the 2020 Olympic Games. Most recently, from 2023 to 2024, he served as president of the Turkish football club Beşiktaş.
