“Money Tells a Story”: A journey through 100 years of Albania’s monetary and banking history

The Bank of Albania opened the exhibition “Money Tells a Story: 100 Years of Life and Events” today. Italian Ambassador Marco Alberti, state officials, financial leaders, diplomats, and academics attended.
The exhibition marks 100 years since the Bank’s founding and 100 years since the first Albanian currency. It showcases documents, artifacts, images, and stories of Albania’s monetary and economic history.
Governor Gent Sejko said the exhibition shows not only the Bank’s history but also everyday Albanian life. Visitors can see how citizens saved, paid, faced crises, and built stability. He added that the exhibition teaches lessons for today and the future.
Ambassador Alberti praised the exhibition. He said the Bank is growing, expanding projects, and supporting the economy. He highlighted the recent SEPA integration as a major achievement.
The exhibition includes a scholarly study by the late Professor Aristotel Pano on Albania’s monetary system. It also travels beyond Tirana to bring financial history closer to communities. Kosovo’s Central Bank will host it next.
Governor Sejko invited the public to visit. The exhibition will remain open until July 20. He encouraged visitors to engage and learn from Albania’s financial history.
