Historic step for futsal as Mediterranean Games 2030 include the sport

Futsal will become an official sport at the Mediterranean Games, starting in Pristina in 2030. This decision marks a historic step for futsal in Kosovo.

First, leaders see international recognition. They also expect stronger institutional support. Moreover, they believe the move will boost visibility for a sport with proven results.

Fatos Dili, director of FC Mabetex Prishtina, called the decision a turning point. He said the Games will strongly promote Kosovo futsal. He added that the sport has long been overlooked despite success. Therefore, he urged greater institutional backing.

Meanwhile, FFK futsal coordinator Getar Hyseni expressed confidence in Kosovo’s readiness. He said the national team will compete with dignity in 2030. However, he stressed the need for closer cooperation with the Games’ organizers. He also highlighted recent achievements, including qualification to the Main Round and the debut of 11 young players. In addition, he confirmed work on launching a women’s league and national team.

At the same time, futsal referee Tina Kallaba welcomed the decision. She said the Games offer a rare chance to present Kosovo futsal internationally. According to her, the event will show the sport’s real level and quality.

Furthermore, former player Skender Sadiku called the news a “mega announcement.” He recalled that organized futsal began in 2008, the year Kosovo declared independence. Since then, he noted steady progress. Kosovo now has international referees, clubs in FIFA and UEFA competitions, and national team qualifiers. As a result, participation in the Mediterranean Games completes this journey.

Finally, the Mediterranean Games are held every four years. The 21st edition will take place in Pristina from July 24 to August 4, 2030. Around 3,500 athletes from 26 countries will compete in more than 30 sports.
