Rama: Albania, a hub for talent and film development

Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania welcomes talented filmmakers, regardless of nationality.

He hosted two Albanian sisters from Vlora, Vilma and Greta, on the podcast FLASIM – Episode 3, Season 6. The sisters live in Los Angeles, USA, and produce films internationally.

Rama emphasized, “It’s about talent, not nationality. Whoever is talented, is talented.” He added that many film groups include multiple nationalities.

Albania already hosts the Marubi Film Academy, and recently, two American filmmakers opened another academy, including a Script Writer. These initiatives provide a strong environment for film production and bring fresh experience to producers and distributors.

Rama highlighted Albania’s unique geography: mountains, sea, old and new cities, all within a small area, ideal for filming.

Although Albania is small and cannot host massive productions, short films thrive and showcase young talent. He praised Erenik Beqiri, who won the Golden Lion for the short film A Short Journey in the “Orizzonti” category at the Venice Film Festival.

“Erenik is extraordinary, and his Venice win shows the potential of Albanian filmmakers,” Rama concluded.
