Osmani: Progress of Presheva Valley Act Sends Clear Message Against Discrimination

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani welcomed the advancement of the Presheva Valley Discrimination Assessment Act in the US House Foreign Affairs Committee. She said the act sends a clear message. Moreover, systematic discrimination against Albanians in Serbia will no longer be ignored or tolerated.

According to Osmani, Serbia has repeatedly violated minority rights. For example, it deactivated addresses as administrative “ethnic cleansing.” In addition, it suppressed the Albanian language. Furthermore, Albanians faced exclusion from public institutions, discrimination in education, economic marginalization, and intimidation by central authorities.

Osmani praised US Congressman Keith Self for introducing and supporting the act. She also thanked Committee Chair Brian Mast and Ranking Member Gregory Meeks for their leadership. Additionally, she thanked all lawmakers who voted in favor with bipartisan support.

She expressed gratitude to the organization Albanians4USA. This group helped amplify the voice of Albanians in the Presheva Valley at the highest levels of US policymaking.

Earlier, Congressman Self introduced the act in Congress. The initiative aims to address the treatment of Albanians by Serbian authorities.

Finally, the act drew a response from Shaip Kamberi, the only Albanian lawmaker in Serbia. He thanked Congressman Self for his support.
