Paintings inspired by Ismail Kadare’s literature

TIRANA, January 29 – The Center for Openness and Dialogue (COD) presented the album “100 Images – Kadare’s Work in the Visual Arts” last evening.

The presentation marked the 90th anniversary of the writer’s birth. The album documents the influence of Ismail Kadare’s literary work on Albanian visual art from the post-war period until 2025.

The event brought together literature, painting, and cultural reflection in a shared dialogue. The album, with a foreword by Prof. Assoc. Dr. Ermir Nika and curated by Prof. Assoc. Dr. Abaz Hado, studies how Kadare’s novels inspired Albanian painters.

This is the second album in the “Kadare in the Visual Arts” project. The first, “100 Portraits”, was published last year by UET Press on the first anniversary of the writer’s passing.

Kadare’s literature became a silent form of resistance during communist period. It continued to serve as a source of inspiration in the following decades.
