Gonxhja: Tish Daija Gave Albanian Music Dignity and an International Dimension

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of composer Tish Daija, describing him as one of the most fundamental figures of Albanian culture and music.
“Tish Daija was a composer, academic, educator, and visionary creator. He laid the foundations of national stage and symphonic art,” Minister Gonxhja wrote.
Through an extraordinary body of work—from the first Albanian ballet Halili and Hajria to operas, operettas, symphonic compositions, film music, and popular music—Tish Daija built bridges between authentic folklore and contemporary expression. As a result, he gave Albanian music identity, dignity, and an international dimension.
Tish Daija also served as director of the State Ensemble of Folk Songs and Dances. In addition, he educated generations of artists and remained a guiding figure of Albanian artistic heritage and taste.
“On this jubilee anniversary, we bow with gratitude before his monumental work. It continues to inspire, educate, and represent Albania with dignity on world stages,” the Minister stated.
