Painted doors tell the story of the Arbëresh community

The Center for Arbëresh Studies and Publications presents the example of the municipality of San Benedetto Ullano in Calabria. The town applies the project “Dyert çë fjasën”.

Artists painted the doors of Arbëresh houses. Each door tells a specific story. Each image takes visitors back through centuries. Along the historic center, the doors now stand as works of art. They preserve the memory of the Arbëresh community. They also restore dignity to abandoned houses. Dust and neglect once covered these homes. Now the project builds a path toward preserving Arbëresh identity and cultural heritage.

“Dyert çë fjasën” (Narrating Doors) is an innovative cultural and social project. It aims to revive historic centers.

The Calabria Region funds the project. Graziella Di Ciancio designed the original concept within the municipal administration of San Benedetto Ullano.

The project engages artists and local communities. Together they leave a lasting mark on the area’s history. The initiative can also drive economic development. It relies on the past while looking to the future. At the same time, it strengthens local traditions.
