Protest planned in Prishtina on February 17 in support of former KLA leaders

TIRANA, February 9 – The ‘Freedom Has a Name’ platform called on mayors to join the February 17 protest “Justice, not politics” in Prishtina. Meanwhile, it invited citizens of Kosova to join the march ahead of the final submissions in The Hague.

The platform said the protest aims to honor Kosova’s history and the sacrifice of former KLA leaders. At a press conference, the platform’s representative, Ismail Tasholli, stated that Kosova is in the final week before a historic decision.

He added that the trial’s final phase begins on February 9. He said the week carries legal, moral, historical, and political significance. In addition, he noted that the world is observing Kosova.

Tasholli emphasized that institutional support shows seriousness and responsibility. He urged other mayors to join the national and patriotic mission. As a result, he said the march will be the largest citizen demonstration Kosova has seen.

He described it as peaceful, dignified, inclusive, and focused on justice, not politics. Last year, five protests supported former KLA leaders. Demonstrations took place in Prishtina, The Hague, Tirana, Strasbourg, and Skopje/Shkup.

Thousands of Albanians called for “Justice for the Liberators.” Later, the platform said another protest will take place in Prishtina on the anniversary of Kosova’s independence.

On Monday, the final phase of the largest trial at the Kosova Specialist Chambers in The Hague against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi will begin.
