Formation of Kosova’s new government, Kallas: Encouraging news, act swiftly on reforms

TIRANA, February 12 – EU Chief Foreign Policy Officer, Kaja Kallas, described the formation of Kosova’s new government as an encouraging development. She noted it follows more than a year of political deadlock in the country.

In a statement posted on X, Kallas congratulated Prime Minister Albin Kurti on assuming office. She emphasized the importance of acting swiftly to implement reforms.

She stated that after over a year of political blockage, the new government formation is encouraging. She highlighted that immediate action on reforms is crucial. She added that this approach will quickly unlock EU support worth hundreds of millions of euros and advance Kosova’s path toward the EU.

Kallas stressed that this moment presents a new opportunity to strengthen EU-Kosova relations and advance dialogue between Kosova and Serbia.

She also confirmed her readiness to hold a high-level meeting soon to deepen cooperation and progress in key processes.

Kosova’s Parliament approved the new government led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti with 66 votes in favor, 49 against, and no abstentions.

Parliament Speaker Albulena Haxhiu said that following the vote, the government members took the oath before the MPs of Kosova’s Parliament.

Earlier, Kurti presented the new government cabinet for the next four years. He outlined the composition and priorities of the executive. With this vote, the new Kosovo government officially began its mandate.

The cabinet includes both new ministers and officials who served in previous governments led by Kurti.

During his speech in Parliament, Kurti said he would normalize relations with Serbia through constructive dialogue. He also highlighted the country’s progress in building a fairer and more inclusive Kosova.
