Book “When Silence Speaks” addresses alleged injustices in The Hague trial of former KLA leaders

Former diplomat Ahmet Shala promoted his book “When Silence Speaks” today in Pristina. The book examines the trial in The Hague of former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army and highlights what the author describes as injustices during more than five years of proceedings.

President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Edi Rama, Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci, and Ali Ahmeti, leader of the Democratic Union for Integration, attended the ceremony.

Shala said he wrote the book as a citizen. He stressed that he felt a moral duty to speak out. Moreover, he described the work as a response to what he called delayed justice. He argued that Kosovo’s history forms one continuous and inseparable story.

Meanwhile, President Osmani urged institutions and citizens to defend Kosovo’s history everywhere. She said people must write the truth in order to protect it. In addition, she stated that the book transforms silence into a strong public voice. She added that it documents both the trial and the lasting wounds of war.

At the same time, Minister Maqedonci said the KLA’s character led democratic states to support Kosovo’s struggle for freedom. He insisted that no judicial process can alter what he described as the liberation nature of that war. Furthermore, he expressed hope that the former KLA leaders will return soon.

Finally, Ali Ahmeti called the trial unjust. He said the accused fought for freedom and dignity. He concluded by pledging continued action in defense of what he described as the truth.
