Durrës-Tirana railway to start next year; Albania-Kosova rail project advances

TIRANA, March 9 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said the government has a clear plan to modernize Albania’s railway network. He added the plan includes electrification according to European Union standards and integration into European rail networks.
Rama said authorities developed concrete projects over the past six years to build 500 kilometers of railway. The Durrës-Tirana line, currently under construction, will have 12 stations. Officials expect it to start operating at the beginning of next year.
The Vora-Hani i Hotit line, linking Albania with Montenegro, is in the procurement phase. Authorities plan to launch construction next year and complete it by 2030. Part of Corridor VIII, the Durrës-Rrogozhina line, will start construction at the end of this year and finish in 2028. The Rrogozhina-Pogradec line is still in the design phase.
In cooperation with the Kosova government, officials completed the feasibility study and preliminary design for the Nation’s Railway. The 105-kilometer line includes 14 tunnels and 43 bridges.
