Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) and the Authority for Information on Documents of the Former State Security (AIDSSH) have initiated a new collaboration to enrich social dialogue about the past and aid in consolidating democracy in Albania.

On social media, AIDSSH emphasizes that RTSH’s 86-year-old audiovisual heritage and media platform with 28 channels covering 90% of Albania’s territory provide a significant space for this initiative.

RTSH Director Alfred Peza and AIDSSH Chairperson Gentiana Sula have discussed concrete projects to be implemented under a recently signed agreement. The agreement aims to utilize RTSH’s film archive and juxtapose it with AIDSSH’s documents to illuminate the period of Albania’s dictatorial regime.

One of the main projects is the television program “When a Film Was Shot,” which through debates and historical documents will analyze cinematographic productions created under the influence of the regime’s propaganda. RTSH Director Peza stated, “Our collaboration begins with enriching the programming of all channels with subjects related to memory and revisiting the past. This includes supporting the digitization of archives and audiovisual assets, as well as producing documentary series or special TV programs on historical events and figures.”

Sula, on the other hand, praised RTSH as a unique partner for its archival potential and informative and educational role. She emphasized the importance of publicizing AIDSSH’s activities such as “Open File” and “Book Club,” which will be promoted through joint programs on the “RTSH School” channel and other media formats.

This collaboration aims to shed light on the crimes and consequences of the proletarian dictatorship, redefine historically stigmatized personalities, and raise awareness among younger generations through television programs, docudramas, and series that address the mechanisms of the former State Security.

RTSH joins other local and international institutions collaborating with AIDSSH to ensure authentic primary sources and to revise history in service of educating youth about the past.
