Gonxhja: “Marubi” Museum, unique and absolute in capturing history through lens

Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, shared a video dedicated to the Marubi Photography Museum in Shkodër on social media. The minister praised this museum as unique in its kind and absolute in capturing history through lenses.
Blendi Gonxhja invited the public to familiarize themselves with one of the treasures of Albanian cultural heritage, emphasizing that each image carries a story, and each snapshot is a frozen moment in time.
The National Museum of Photography “Marubi” was founded to promote the photographic archive created by the Marubi dynasty of photographers and co-developers of images in Shkodër. At the center of this museum project is the legacy of “Photo-Studio Marubi,” founded by Pietro Marubi, an Italian painter and architect.
The Marubi family studio was maintained by future generations throughout the 20th century, and later, its heirs were forced to dissolve the studio in favor of communist collective anonymity.
“Photo Studio Marubi” documented the lives of Shkodër residents, regional landscapes, the built environment, historical events, and traditional customs. The National Museum of Photography Marubi was inaugurated in 2016, thereby increasing recognition of the value of the studio’s archive heritage and promoting artistic dialogue between tradition and modernity, past, and present.
