Food Safety: AKU Laboratories Upgraded in Shkodra, Fier and Gjirokastra

Improved laboratory infrastructure and stronger food safety control capacities marked the main results of the TYPIC-AL project, which concluded with a closing meeting in Albania.
The project received funding from the Italian government through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS). CIHEAM Bari implemented the project in cooperation with the National Food Authority (AKU).
Under the project, AKU upgraded its laboratory infrastructure in Shkodra, Fier and Gjirokastra. The initiative also strengthened technical capacities for laboratory analyses and food safety controls.
AKU Director General Blerina Gjylameti praised the cooperation developed through TYPIC-AL. She highlighted the importance of investing in laboratories, human resources and institutional capacities to strengthen the official food control system.
The project also helped strengthen food safety capacities. At the same time, it further aligned Albania’s food control system with European Union standards.
The closing meeting took place today in Tirana. Participants stressed the importance of continuing cooperation between AKU and CIHEAM Bari through new initiatives.
