Prime Minister Edi Rama discussed Albania’s European Union integration process during a meeting with the Albanian community in Michigan.

Rama said Albania has entered a new phase of its EU accession talks. He said the country has opened all negotiating chapters and now aims to start closing them.

He said Albania aims to complete the accession process by 2030.

“Albania has now opened all the negotiating chapters for EU membership. We are beginning to move into the phase of closing the chapters. Our goal is to complete this long journey towards Europe by 2030,” Rama said.

He added that Albania aims to take its place at the EU table as an equal member. The Prime Minister also discussed Albania’s tourism growth with the community in Michigan. He said the country now attracts around 12 million visitors a year.

Rama also highlighted the growth in air traffic over the past several years. According to Rama, Albania’s main airport has surpassed Belgrade Airport in passenger numbers.

“These developments have given Albania strong reasons to become a country that now attracts 12 million visitors a year,” Rama said.

He added that Albania’s airport has recorded the highest growth in the region for five or six consecutive years.

Rama also said the airport has become the busiest in the region by passenger numbers. He noted that it has overtaken Belgrade Airport, which had served as the region’s main airport for more than a century.
