European Union Ambassador to Albania Sofia Moreira de Sousa stressed that a strong justice system remains essential for Albania’s future in the European Union during a meeting with High Prosecutorial Council Chair Mirela Bogdani.

The two officials discussed key priorities for Albania’s prosecution system, including institutional accountability and the continued implementation of justice reform.

Moreira de Sousa reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to supporting Albania’s justice institutions as the country advances on its path toward EU membership.

She emphasized that the EU will continue backing efforts to strengthen the independence, accountability and effectiveness of justice institutions.

“A strong justice system is essential for Albania’s future in the European Union,” the ambassador said.

She added that the EU’s support aims to reinforce the rule of law, improve institutional performance and increase public trust in the justice system.

According to Moreira de Sousa, strong, independent and accountable justice institutions play a crucial role in Albania’s EU accession process and remain a key pillar of the country’s reform agenda.

The meeting highlighted the importance of maintaining momentum in justice reform, one of the central requirements in Albania’s negotiations for European Union membership.
