The National Center of Books and Reading has launched the “Art Library” series at the “Jordan Misja” Artistic Lyceum. The initiative brings together words and images while highlighting key figures in the history of Albanian visual art.

The series will continue throughout the school year with monthly meetings. At the first session, National Center of Books and Reading Director Arta Marku and Artistic Lyceum Director Etleva Kolnikaj explained the program for the coming months.

The meetings will also connect with the 80th anniversary of the lyceum. They will focus on monographs dedicated to artists who have left their mark on the school’s history.

For this reason, the “Art Library” opened with a discussion on the monograph of Nexhmedin Zajmi. Zajmi taught at the lyceum from its early years and became one of the most important Albanian painters of the 1940s–1990s.

Art researcher and historian Oltsen Gripshi introduced Zajmi’s work to the students.

Gripshi highlighted key works from the artist’s career. He explained that Zajmi worked across all major visual-art genres with the same expressive strength, including portraits, multi-figure compositions, landscapes, interiors and still lifes.

Moreover, Gripshi highlighted Zajmi’s strong influence on his contemporaries and colleagues, as well as on generations of artists who later engaged with his work.

Meanwhile, the “Art Library” will continue every month. Each session will introduce young people to another prominent figure in Albanian visual art.
