Tourism, Culture and Sport Minister Blendi Gonxhja marked World Tourism Day by highlighting Albania’s long tradition of hospitality and the role tourism plays in helping visitors discover the country’s culture and traditions.

In a message marking the occasion, Gonxhja stressed that the way Albania has welcomed travellers over the years forms part of the country’s history and identity.

“Every era has left its mark on the way Albania has welcomed travellers,” the minister said.

According to Gonxhja, the tourism experience goes beyond visiting a destination. It also means discovering its history, culture and tradition of hospitality.

“Tourism is not only about visiting a place. It is about discovering its history, culture and tradition of hospitality,” he stressed.

Moreover, Gonxhja highlighted the cultural and human dimension of tourism, beyond simply visiting different destinations.

World Tourism Day takes place every year on Sept. 27. The day highlights tourism’s contribution to economic, social and cultural development.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization established the day in 1980. This year, the focus turns to one of the technologies transforming the tourism industry most rapidly: artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, digital platforms and AI tools are playing an increasingly important role in tourism decisions. They give travellers personalized recommendations and help them choose destinations that match their interests.

Tourism continues to play an important role in Albania’s economic development and international promotion. The sector combines the country’s natural assets with its cultural heritage, history and tradition of hospitality.

From the coastline to the mountains, historic cities and rural destinations, Albania aims to offer experiences rooted in its identity and values. At the same time, the country continues to work on making tourism more sustainable and diversifying its tourism offer.
