The Academy of Sciences of Albania took part in the 20th International Seminar of Albanology, organized by the University of Tetovo.

During the event, the Academy presented the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language (FMGJSH). It also joined the National Academic Book Fair.

Before the seminar, Academy Chairman Skënder Gjinushi met with University of Tetovo Rector Kushtrim Mehmeti. Academician Valter Memisha, Prof. Dr. Anila Kananaj and Prof. Dr. Shezai Rrokaj joined Gjinushi at the meeting.

Deputy Education Minister Driton Sulejmani also attended. Seminar Director Berton Sulejmani, who also serves as Dean of the Faculty of Philology, took part as well.

During the meeting, Gjinushi thanked the rector for supporting the Academy’s major projects. He highlighted the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language and the Albanian Encyclopedia.

In addition, Gjinushi briefed the rector and university representatives on three major projects. These include the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language, the Albanian Encyclopedia and the History of the Albanians.

Looking ahead, Gjinushi invited the University of Tetovo to expand cooperation with the Academy. The two institutions could work together on research projects, studies and joint publications.

At the opening of the plenary session, Rector Mehmeti welcomed the presentation of the dictionary. He said that no Albanology seminar could feature a more important event than the presentation of an Albanian dictionary.

Meanwhile, Gjinushi presented the Academy’s work on its major projects. He stressed the importance of institutional cooperation in completing them successfully.

Next, Valter Memisha, scientific secretary of the dictionary project and its co-director, presented the new principles and methods behind the work.

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Shezai Rrokaj discussed the dictionary’s informative and documentary role. He also explained its normative function.

Finally, Prof. Dr. Anila Kananaj presented the dictionary’s online platform. She explained its main features and showed how the public can access and use its resources.
