Albania tourism minister calls for investment in workforce

Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja said Albania has entered an important stage of tourism development. He spoke at the Future Hospitality Forum, organised by the Albanian Investment Development Agency.
Gonxhja said growing international interest, expanding investment and a more diverse tourism offer are changing the sector. He added that the government’s goal goes beyond increasing tourist numbers. It also includes higher standards, more professional services and more highly skilled jobs.
The minister said Albania has moved from a limited hospitality offer to a more diverse market in a relatively short period. International brands now operate in the country, including Marriott through Tirana Marriott Hotel, Hilton through Hilton Garden Inn Tirana, Radisson Hotel Group, Melia Hotels and Maritim.
In July, the number of visitors staying in tourist accommodation increased by 15.2% from a year earlier. Non-resident visitors increased by 18.3%.
Meanwhile, Gonxhja said sustainable tourism requires quality to keep pace with demand. He called for investment in the tourism workforce alongside investment in hospitality infrastructure. He also urged investors and international brands to consider Albania at the current stage of the sector’s development.
