International Dance Festival Tirana Opens with 17 Performances Across the City

The International Dance Festival Tirana (IDFT) will launch its fifth edition on October 3, bringing a rich program of contemporary dance, international artists and artistic companies to the Albanian capital through October 21.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja said the festival will feature 17 performances in nine different venues across the city, strengthening artistic cooperation and cultural dialogue.

Among the highlights of this year’s edition is renowned Albanian-born choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, who will present his latest work, “Soulevement,” alongside leading international dance companies.

Meanwhile, the National Theatre of Opera, Ballet and Folk Ensemble will play a central role in the festival by hosting six performance evenings and presenting a joint production with the Ballet of Kosovo.

The program will showcase a wide range of dance styles, from classical and contemporary dance to urban forms, combining movement with music, theatre, projections and puppetry.

In addition, performances will take place in theatres, public spaces and other venues throughout Tirana, while part of the program has been designed specifically for children.

Supported by the European Union, the festival aims to create new opportunities for artists and bring contemporary dance closer to audiences. At the same time, it seeks to strengthen Tirana’s role as a hub for creativity, cultural exchange and international artistic dialogue.
