Albania and Israel sign agreement to expand bilateral cooperation

Albanian Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar signed a general cooperation agreement in Tirana to strengthen ties between the two countries. The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation in the economy, security, technology, agriculture, energy, healthcare, education and tourism.
Hoxha highlighted opportunities for Israeli investment in infrastructure, agribusiness, technology, innovation and energy. He also stressed the importance of cybersecurity cooperation, thanking Israel for its support in strengthening Albania’s digital defences following the 2022 cyberattacks attributed by Albanian authorities to Iran and groups linked to it.
Meanwhile, Sa’ar described Albania as a true friend of Israel, citing their historical ties and shared moral values. He recalled how Albanian families sheltered and saved Jews during the Holocaust, praising the country’s tradition of solidarity.
The Israeli minister also welcomed Albania’s support for Israel after the October 7 attacks and its opposition to Hamas terrorism.
Both ministers emphasised the need to deepen cooperation on security threats, including terrorism, violent extremism, antisemitism and hybrid threats. They also highlighted growing tourism and stronger people-to-people links as foundations for a lasting partnership.
