Tirana, the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue

After earning the titles of European Capital of Youth and European City of Sport, Tirana has now secured another distinction as the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue for 2025.
Genci Kojedheli, the director of strategic projects in the Municipality of Tirana, highlighted that the array of activities organized within these events adds significant value to the capital.
The core theme of our application is ‘Tirana as a bridge’, connecting cities, cultures, languages, and historical traditions. We aim to showcase our values, such as hospitality and religious harmony, of which we should be proud.
Throughout this year, the capital will initiate and organize activities under the banner of ‘Tirana, the Mediterranean City of Culture and Dialogue.
Some of the Union’s activities will take place in Tirana this year. Moreover, throughout 2024, all stakeholders involved in cultural and dialogue issues in cities, including civil society, will collaborate to craft an engaging agenda filled with national and international events, creating a beautiful and enticing cultural experience.
According to the director of strategic projects in the Municipality of Tirana, these activities are anticipated not only to bring Tirana into the spotlight but also to contribute to an increase in visitors. “We expect all these activities to attract a higher number of visitors to Tirana,” he elaborated.
Tirana was bestowed with this title by the Union for the Mediterranean, an intergovernmental organization comprising 43 member states, encompassing EU states and those bordering the Mediterranean.
