Protesters clash with police at Education Ministry before damaging City Hall

The protest by students and other citizens began at 14:00 on Tuesday outside the Ministry of Education. Some participants threw stones and other hard objects at the building and police. During the afternoon, protesters also set fire to cardboard, rubbish bins and roadside advertising panels, and removed railings along the street.

In the evening, protesters moved from Durrës Street to Tirana City Hall. They threw stones at the building, broke a door and threw flares inside. Some protesters entered the building before police intervened and removed them.

The State Police said officers had escorted 23 protesters to police facilities for further procedural action. Six officers from the National Security Force and one female journalist suffered injuries during the incidents.

Meanwhile, 3 protesters sought medical attention at the Mother Teresa University Hospital Centre after exposure to gas. Doctors discharged 2 of them following consultations, while the third remained under examination by emergency staff.
