“Wonders of Arbëria” Celebrates Albania’s Rich Folk Heritage

“Wonders of Arbëria” brought Albanian folklore, traditions and cultural heritage to the stage of the National Theatre of Opera, Ballet and Folk Ensemble in a vibrant celebration of the country’s cultural identity.

Artists from the National Folk Song and Dance Ensemble joined the Gurra e Kurbin Ensemble for an evening filled with colour, rhythm and emotion. The packed audience welcomed the performance with applause as music, songs and dances celebrated Albania’s cultural roots.

The show blended the epic sounds of the lahuta, the distinctive harmonies of Albanian polyphonic singing and the energetic K’cimi dance of Tropoja. The traditional xhubleta also took centre stage as a symbol of Albanian heritage. Other performances evoked the country’s historic stone towns and the ancient tradition of transhumance, the seasonal movement of livestock between pastures.

Renowned folk artists also enriched the programme. Vendim Kapaj performed on the fyell, a traditional flute, while Pjetër Matusha played the lahuta. A çifteli ensemble further showcased Albania’s musical traditions.

Through music, dance and traditional costumes, “Wonders of Arbëria” highlighted the diversity of Albanian folklore and the importance of preserving and promoting it. The performance also helped pass these traditions on to younger generations, keeping the country’s cultural heritage alive.
