Durrës Port records sharp growth in vehicle and container handling

Durrës Port recorded significant growth in commercial activity during the first eight months of 2026. Data from the Durrës Port Authority show increases in both vehicle and container handling compared with the same period last year.
The port handled a total of 15,827 vehicles between January and August 2026. This figure represents a 51% increase from the first eight months of 2025. The growth points to an expansion in activity across the vehicle handling sector.
Container handling also recorded strong growth during the same period. According to the Port Authority, throughput reached an increase of 47.04% in twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) compared with January–August 2025. The figures highlight rising cargo volumes at one of Albania’s main maritime gateways.
Durrës Port benefits from its strategic position on the Adriatic Sea and its connections to transport networks. These links support Albania’s foreign trade and help supply the domestic market. The port also serves as one of the country’s main hubs for freight transport and cargo handling.
The latest figures underline the port’s growing role in Albania’s logistics sector. Continued increases in vehicle and container traffic reflect higher handling volumes during the first eight months of the year.
