Albania to Host Euro-Mediterranean Assembly for the First Time, Opening New Opportunities for Municipalities

Albania will host the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly (ARLEM) for the first time. The forum aims to strengthen cooperation between local and regional authorities in EU member states and countries across the southern Mediterranean.
Over three days, more than 80 representatives of local and regional authorities will discuss shared challenges. Key topics will include climate change, youth and sustainable development across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Majlinda Bufi, mayor of Roskovec and a member of ARLEM’s board, said the event would create new opportunities for Albanian municipalities. Speaking to A2 CNN, she explained that local authorities could build partnerships, learn from European experiences and gain better access to international projects.
According to Bufi, hosting the assembly comes at an important moment for Albania’s EU integration process. It could also help municipalities meet EU recommendations and strengthen their role in the country’s European journey.
Furthermore, the forum will give local authorities access to information about funding opportunities and help improve the professional skills of municipal administrations. Bufi said many Albanian mayors would attend to explore new forms of cooperation and identify opportunities for their communities.
The discussions will also focus on three key areas under the Pact for the Mediterranean: climate, people and territory.
On the third day, some activities will take place in Roskovec. Representatives of municipalities from EU and Mediterranean countries, including France, Spain and Italy, are expected to attend.
