Shkodër hosts the National Folk Ensemble; spectators enjoy the folk pearls

Shkodër welcomed the National Ensemble of Folk Songs and Dances on Christmas Day in the square filled with citizens who had come to follow the artistic show with traditional songs and dances from south to north through the mobile stage.

With some of the most beautiful songs from a carefully selected repertoire, including those from Shkodër too, the artists of the National Folk Ensemble kept the audience engaged for more than 90 minutes of artistic performance. Shkodër was one of the stops of this tour that is being undertaken for the first time by the National Theater of Opera and Ballet with the support of the Ministry of Culture.

“We have also brought young people closer and we are still seeing the continuity of this, because as you know tradition and culture and the Ensemble has been a passport abroad too,” said the artistic director of the Folk Ensemble, Alban Tahiri.

The head of the dance group, Brikena Jaupaj, from a lifetime in the Ensemble, says that the young people are inheriting the tradition of Albanian dances quite well.

For the dancers, it is both a pleasure and a responsibility to preserve this cultural heritage.

The end of the art show made the stage artists one with the audience, dancing together. After Shkodër, the tour of National Folk Ensemble will continue in Kukës and other cities of the country too.
