The Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti, recently posted an image of the Venetian Tower on social media. In her post, the minister highlighted the transformation of the Durrës tower, once an abandoned structure damaged by an earthquake, into an information center showcasing history and heritage. Additionally, she noted that it has become a beloved space for children.

Margariti mentioned that “the restoration and digitization of the Venetian Tower, conducted under the EU4Culture program, stands as one of the commendable achievements of the Ministry of Culture in the year 2023.”

The Venetian tower constitutes a segment of the Durrës fortress, historically recognized as one of the most formidable fortresses along the western coast of the Adriatic during the Middle Ages. During the initial decades of the 15th century, under Venice’s occupation of Durrës, the tower underwent reconstruction, acquiring its present-day appearance. Designated as a cultural monument in 1948, the Durrës Castle encompasses this significant structure.

The Venetian tower, situated in the heart of Durrës, underwent restoration following the severe earthquake that struck the city in November 2019. With the aid of the EU4Culture program, the tower has been transformed to incorporate multimedia technology programs, allowing it to convey historical narratives and information.
